Urbex basics What is urbex?

Urbex stands for urban exploring: discovering and photographing abandoned buildings, sites and other forgotten places. The experience is about atmosphere, history and respect for the location.

Urbex basics How do I start with urbex?

Start by gathering information, choose a location you can prepare properly and research the surroundings and applicable rules. Preferably do not go alone and do not take unnecessary risks.

Urbex basics Is urbex legal?

That differs by location. Many abandoned places are on private property or are not freely accessible. Always check local rules and enter a location only when it is permitted.

Urbex basics Is urbex dangerous?

Abandoned buildings may contain risks such as unstable floors, glass, openings, moisture or hazardous materials. Assess the situation yourself, go prepared and turn back when something does not feel safe.

Urbex basics What should I take on an urbex trip?

At minimum, consider sturdy shoes, suitable clothing, a flashlight, a charged phone and a compact first-aid kit. A camera or smartphone is useful for capturing the place.

Urbex basics What are the unwritten rules of urbex?

Do not force entry, damage anything, take anything or leave rubbish behind. Photograph the location without changing it further.

Maps & access What is the difference between an urbex map and an individual location?

An urbex map contains several locations within a country or region. With an individual location, you buy only the information for one specific place.

Maps & access How do I access my map?

After successful payment, your purchase is immediately available in your UrbexNow account. Open My maps to access it.

Maps & access Are the maps physically shipped?

No. Maps and individual locations are digital products, so you will not receive a parcel by post.

Maps & access Do I need a subscription?

No. You purchase a map, upgrade or individual location as a separate product. UrbexNow does not require a subscription.

Maps & access How do I know whether I have the correct map version?

The product title and product page indicate which map or upgrade you are buying. Check this before checkout, especially when purchasing an upgrade for an existing map.

Maps & access Are maps and locations updated?

Location information may be adjusted when new information becomes available. Urbex changes quickly, so it can never be guaranteed that every place remains unchanged or accessible at all times.

Maps & access Are all locations still accessible?

No, this can change from day to day. A location may be closed off, demolished, secured or change owners. Always check the current situation and local rules yourself.

Maps & access Where do I use my map?

Your map is available in UrbexNow’s own map environment. Sign in to your account and open My maps.

Ordering & payment When do I get access to my digital purchase?

Immediately after successful payment, the purchase is linked to your UrbexNow account.

Ordering & payment How do I know whether my payment was successful?

After a successful payment, an order confirmation appears and you normally receive a confirmation email. If in doubt, check whether an order appears in your account or contact us.

Ordering & payment Which payment methods can I use?

The payment methods available for your country, device and order are shown automatically in the Shopify checkout.

Ordering & payment My payment failed. What can I do?

First check whether the amount was actually charged and whether you received an order confirmation. Then try the checkout again or contact your payment provider or UrbexNow.

Ordering & payment Can I pay later?

Use only the payment methods shown during checkout. If deferred payment is not shown in the checkout, that option is not available for the order.

Ordering & payment Why does a map price say “from”?

Some map products have multiple variants or versions. The displayed price is then the lowest available price within that product.

Locations & community Can I submit a new location?

Yes. Use the location updates page and choose “New spot”. Preferably add exact coordinates, an explanation and recent photos.

Locations & community How do I report that a location has changed?

Use the location update form and choose the type of change that best fits, such as demolished, closed off or incorrect information.

Locations & community Can I trade a location with UrbexNow?

Yes. Through the “Trade a location” page, you can offer a location that is not yet in the database. Every submission is reviewed manually.

Locations & community Why is an update checked first?

A report may be incomplete, outdated or difficult to verify. Information is therefore checked before a map, collection or location page is changed.

Locations & community How do I contact you if my question is not listed?

Use the contact form and state as clearly as possible which order, map or location is concerned. Always include the order number for an order.
